In the past, you would have to go to LA, SF, Vancouver or NY to catch a SIA flight. But SIA changed that a couple years ago with their new Houston-Moscow-Singapore route. I've taken this route twice now, and here's why I'm a fan: 1. It's the quickest way to get to SE Asia. SIA did a great job in timing this flight efficiently. It leaves Houston at 4:30pm, gets into Singapore at 5:30am (+2 days), allowing you to catch the first planes out of Singapore to your final destination without having to wait more than 2 hours. 2. New Boeing 777 plane that has cool features such as reading light mounted under each personal screen (eliminates having to turn on the overhead lights), wider personal screen, power supply at each seat (to power up your laptop or iPhone), and drinking water fountain next to lavatories. 3. Well, I'm already a SIA fan - great service, good food (for airline food), on-demand entertainment system with tons of movie choices (and that's important when you're on a plane for 24 hours)! 4. It's in the same airline network as Continental so I can continue to rack up Continental elite miles. 5. No more having to wait in LA, SF, Vancouver or NY for connecting flights (which goes hand-in-hand with #1 above). I've only flown during "low" season. But, I find that the first leg of the flight to Moscow is usually pretty empty. Thus, if you seat yourself right, you could end up with a row to yourself. The flight does fill up for the second leg. I do find Moscow airport interesting, but that's for another review."
